Chic petite AMIE: Meet Laura Leigh of Louella Reese

Charlotte-based fashion & lifestyle blogger Laura Leigh is one of our favorite petite women. We had the pleasure to invite her as the first lady to be featured in our "Chic petite AMIE" series. She runs “Louella Reese” and let us just tell you, every time we visit her blog we are in love with how amazing it all works together and how inspirational she is. We can't wait to share her style and stories with you.

Laura, tell us more about yourself and Louella Reese.

I am a life and style blogger and have been since 2013. As of February 17th, 2017 I was able to take blogging full time. Which has been the biggest, most exciting decision I have made. Aside from blogging, I love to work out, spend time with my husband and family, try out new restaurants in the Charlotte area, and travel as much as possible.

Louella Reese was started in 2013 as a creative outlet. Originally I was thinking... ha, I am bored with my job and honestly my life at the time, I needed to spice things up. After finding a blogger via Pinterest and stalking her blog for weeks, I decided to start one of my own. The blog was really just a fun outlet for two years, nothing serious at all. I rarely even posted. In late 2015, I started to change that. I posted more regularly and reached out to work with other bloggers. In 2016, I decided Louella Reese was a business and I was going to treat it as such. That’s when I really started to see growth and really fell in love with blogging.

While Louella Reese was really just a fashion blog when I started, it has now become more lifestyle. I include topics like home decor, travel, beauty, and marriage + men’s topics from my husband. There’s a little bit of something for everyone and it now includes most aspects of my life. Which I love!

How has being a “petite girl” shaped your personal style?

Being petite has forced me to really focus on what works for me. When you’re petite, a lot of items and styles won’t work for you. They just make you appear shorter and sometimes frumpy. Which no gal wants that! So being petite is a blessing in my mind, only certain things work for you. And that’s kind of a challenge but also super fun! You can wear tops as dresses, that’s a win! You can wear heels often and no one will really think anything of it because now, you’re closer to their height while looking longer, leaner, and fiercer. I love it!

Where do you shop? What’s your favorite brand?

Currently, my favorite places to shop are J.Crew, Nordstrom, Anthropologie, Shopbop, and Roberta Roller Rabbit.

I would say there’s a tie between J.Crew and Roberta Roller Rabbit. J.Crew has always been a favorite of mine and lately they are just killing it! I cannot get enough of their feminine tops and classic preppy dresses. As for Roberta Roller Rabbit, their items are just adorable. So unique, fresh, and exciting. With all the embroidery, patterns, and details you can’t help but get excited looking at their pieces.

What are your wardrobe essentials?

Currently, easy dresses, neutral loafers, silk scarves, and oversized sunglasses.

What are your absolute favorite items this season?

For summer: silk scarves, basket bags, shirt dresses, and espadrille wedges.

For the upcoming fall: silk scarves, loafers, midi skirts, and hunter boots.

Where did you go for your last vacation? What did you pack for that trip?

A couple of weekends ago I visited Fearrington Village in Pittsboro, NC. Just the cutest little bed and breakfast with the sweetest village + farm. For the trip I really played into the farm part of the property. I went with Madewell overalls, Southern Tides plaid pullover shirt, Teasure & Bond white sneakers, J.Crew gingham skirt, Draper James sweatshirt, Hunter rain boots, navy sweatshirt coat, J.Crew gingham blouse, J.Crew white shorts, and Roberta Roller Rabbit pajamas.

What is on your wish list for the upcoming fall season?

Oh this is tough! I haven’t started looking into the fall season too much. Bad blogger, I know. I am just loving summer so much this year, I am trying to hold on for as long as I can.

But, for fall, I would love blush loafers, riding boots {I can never find a pair that works for me but I am determined to make it happen this year}, blush slingback flats, Barbour jacket, and woven tote.

Who is your main fashion inspiration?

Mainly, other fashion bloggers. No one gal in particular. I read a ton of blogs each day and follow several other bloggers via social media. They inspire me almost daily! Some of my best friends too, they push me to step out of my comfort zone and try new looks, styles, and items. If I did have to pick one celebrity fashion inspiration, I would say Reese Witherspoon.

What is a must-have for all petite girls out there?

A great tailor and patience! You need to try several items on and several styles to find what works. It’s hard and can be frustrating but have patience, you’ll find the right fit for you!

Words you live by or quotes you love?
